About EWB Canada

The mission of Engineers Without Borders Canada is to promote human development through access to technology. EWB understands that all people share the same desire to better their lives for themselves and their children. The availability of appropriate technology is key in this effort, especially in situations of poverty, alienation, and voicelessness. Since people are at the heart of human development, they are always the central focus of EWB's work.

EWB Canada is a charitable organization that has become a leader in development work. It was founded in 2000 by two engineers, George Roter and Parker Mitchell, based on their belief that engineers can play a role in development. In one morning at a Toronto coffee shop, they scribbled the early workings of EWB on a napkin and have not looked back since. As of 2005, EWB has over 18,000 members nation-wide, 25 university chapters, 3 professional chapters, and sent more than 160 volunteers overseas!
